{"id":25915,"date":"2011-12-11T09:29:49","date_gmt":"2011-12-11T14:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/countingpips.com\/fx\/2011\/12\/11\/china-central-bank-to-create-300-billion-investment-fund\/"},"modified":"2011-12-11T09:29:49","modified_gmt":"2011-12-11T14:29:49","slug":"china-central-bank-to-create-300-billion-investment-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.investmacro.com\/fx\/2011\/12\/11\/china-central-bank-to-create-300-billion-investment-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"China Central Bank to Create $300 Billion Investment Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbc.gov.cn\/\">People&#8217;s Bank of China<\/a>&nbsp;announced that it plans to create an investment fund to manage $300 billion worth of foreign exchange reserves in more aggressive investments and largely internationally. &nbsp;According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2011\/12\/09\/uk-china-pboc-investments-idUSTRE7B80RC20111209\">Reuters<\/a> the fund would invest in the US via the Hua Mei fund, and Europe via the Hua Ou fund. &nbsp;It is understood that the fund has been under development for some time, and will seek to invest in real assets and company shares, rather than government securities such as US treasuries. &nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><a name='more'><\/a><span>The fund will operate alongside the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE), and separately from China&#8217;s sovereign wealth fund; China Investment Corp (CIC). &nbsp;The recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imf.org\/external\/pubs\/ft\/scr\/2011\/cr11321.pdf\">IMF Financial System Stability Assessment<\/a> provides an overview of China&#8217;s key financial institutions and structure.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span><span><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>The People&#8217;s Bank of China also made headlines earlier this month when it reduced the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralbanknews.info\/2011\/11\/peoples-bank-of-china-drops-rrr-50bps.html\">RRR<\/a> by 50 basis points; the PBoC last raised the&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralbanknews.info\/2011\/06\/peoples-bank-of-china-raises-reserve.html\">reserve requirements<\/a><span>&nbsp;by 50 basis points in June this year.&nbsp;<\/span><span>&nbsp;Meanwhile the People&#8217;s Bank of China last&nbsp;raised the benchmark&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralbanknews.info\/2011\/07\/peoples-bank-of-china-raises-interest.html\">interest rate<\/a><span>&nbsp;25bps to 6.56% in early July&nbsp;this year. &nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span><br \/>The Bank for International Settlements recently published a paper on &#8216;China&#8217;s Evolving Reserve Requirements&#8217;
