In addition, the MPC will be meeting every first week of the month until further notice,&#8221; and said the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessdailyafrica.com\/Corporate+News\/CBK+raises+lending+rate+to+tame+inflation++stabilise+shilling\/-\/539550\/1248456\/-\/u12voo\/-\/\">CBK<\/a> &#8220;will revise the CBR further if inflation and exchange rate volatility do not abate.&#8221; also noting:&nbsp;&#8220;inflationary pressure has continued to increase and both the weakening of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/InsidePage.php?id=2000044003&amp;cid=4\">shilling<\/a> and its volatility poses additional threats.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/> <span><span><span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/><a name='more'><\/a><span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralbanknews.info\/\" name=\"more\"><\/a><span><span><span>A<\/span><\/span><\/span><span>t its previous meeting the CBK increased the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralbanknews.info\/2011\/09\/central-bank-of-kenya-raises-rate-75bps.html\">interest rate<\/a> by 75bps to 7.00%, after having&nbsp;previously increased, and subsequently decreased the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralbanknews.info\/2011\/07\/central-bank-of-kenya-reverses-discount.html\">discount window rate<\/a>&nbsp;by 75 basis points to 6.25%. &nbsp;The Kenyan central bank last increased the benchmark&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralbanknews.info\/2011\/05\/central-bank-of-kenya-lifts-interest.html\">lending rate<\/a>&nbsp;by 25 basis points in May this year.<\/span><\/span><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span><br \/>Kenya experienced annual headline inflation of 17.3% in September, up from 16.7% in August, up from 15.5% in July, and up sharply from 9.19% in March this year, according to&nbsp;<span>inflation data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. &nbsp;The Central Bank of Kenya has an inflation target of 5 percent. &nbsp;<\/span><\/span><br \/><span><span><br \/>Kenya reported seasonally adjusted GDP growth of -4.6% in Q2, compared to +2% in Q1. &nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span>A Kenyan Ministry of Finance official noted that Kenya is expected to record economic growth around 5-5.5% this year, and 6% next year. &nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span><br \/>The Kenyan Shilling (KES) has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nation.co.ke\/business\/news\/House+team+places+blame+for+slide+of+shilling+on+CBK\/-\/1006\/1247976\/-\/sf1a3jz\/-\/\">weakened<\/a> about 27% against the US dollar so far this year; the USDKES exchange rate last traded around 101.25.<\/span><br \/><span><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div><span><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralbanknews.info\/\">www.CentralBankNews.info<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/8290544642025682538-3863912376405053450?l=www.centralbanknews.info\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The&nbsp;Central Bank of Kenya&nbsp;upped its benchmark lending rate by 400 basis points to 11.00% from 7.00% previously. &nbsp;The central bank Governor, Njuguna Ndung&#8217;u, said:&nbsp;&#8220;The Committee decided to raise the CBR by 400 basis points to 11.0 percent.
