{"id":1596,"date":"2009-04-28T06:44:58","date_gmt":"2009-04-28T11:44:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/countingpips.com\/fx\/?p=1596"},"modified":"2009-04-28T06:44:58","modified_gmt":"2009-04-28T11:44:58","slug":"japanese-retail-sales-decline-in-march-fall-40-in-1st-quarter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.investmacro.com\/fx\/2009\/04\/28\/japanese-retail-sales-decline-in-march-fall-40-in-1st-quarter\/","title":{"rendered":"Japanese Retail Sales decline in March, fall 4.0% in 1st Quarter."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Japanese Retail Sales decreased in March for the seventh straight month according to a report by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry released overnight. <a href=\"http:\/\/countingpips.com\/fx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/250150blueglobe3.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1502\" title=\"250150blueglobe3\" src=\"http:\/\/countingpips.com\/fx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/250150blueglobe3.gif\" alt=\"250150blueglobe3\" width=\"250\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>March retail sales fell 3.9 percent to 11.7 trillion yen on an annual basis following February&#8217;s 5.7 percent annual decrease and January&#8217;s 2.4 percent annual fall.<\/p>\n<p>On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales fell 1.1 percent in March after declining by a revised 0.2 percent in February.\u00a0 On a quarterly basis, Japanese retail sales decreased by 4.0 percent in the first quarter of 2009 to 32.5 trillion yen.<\/p>\n<p>The retail sales data fell more than forecasted on a monthly basis in March as expectations were for a 0.4 percent monthly decline. Retail sales fell less than forecasted on an annual basis with market forecasts predicting a 4.7 percent annual decline.<\/p>\n<p>Retail sales at large retailers, including department stores and supermarkets, fell 8.1 percent on an annual basis in March and about equaled February&#8217;s decline.
