{"id":82682,"date":"2015-12-18T06:46:55","date_gmt":"2015-12-18T11:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/countingpips.com\/?p=82682"},"modified":"2015-12-18T06:46:55","modified_gmt":"2015-12-18T11:46:55","slug":"bank-of-japan-makes-unexpected-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.investmacro.com\/forex\/2015\/12\/bank-of-japan-makes-unexpected-move\/","title":{"rendered":"Bank of Japan makes unexpected move"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"inves-3691624689\" class=\"inves-below-title-posts inves-entity-placement\"><div id =\"posts_date_custom\"><div align=\"left\">December 18, 2015<\/div><hr style=\"border: none; border-bottom: 3px solid black;\">\r\n<\/div><\/div><p>Article by <a href=\"http:\/\/countingpips.com\/contributors\/contributor-profile-forextime\/\">ForexTime<\/a><\/p>\n<p>An unexpected move from the Bank of Japan: the central bank will extend the average maturity of government bonds in its portfolio \u2013 an effort to flatten out the yield curve \u2013 and it also announced a new ETF purchase programme.<\/p>\n<p>The BoJ said it would extend the average maturity of its government bond holdings to 7 \u2013 12 years, from 7-10 years, \u201cwith a view to encouraging a decline in interest rates across the entire yield curve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It also established a programme to purchase ETFs at an annual pace of about Y300bn yen, in addition to the current programme in which it buys about Y3tn of ETFs.<\/p>\n<p>Under this new program, the Bank will purchase ETFs composed of stocks issues by firms that are proactively making investment in physical and human capital.
