Crude oil prices dropped following a Department of Energy report that showed that inventories increased more than expected. Crude oil prices dropped below $50 per barrel, and a close below the psychological benchmark could see continue downward pressure.<\/p>\n

According to the Energy Information Administration, U.S. commercial crude oil inventories increased by 2.5 million barrels from the previous week. At 463.9 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories remain near levels not seen for this time of year in at least the last 80 years. Gasoline inventories decreased by 1.7 million barrels last week, but are in the upper half of the average range. Distillate fuel inventories increased by 0.2 million barrels last week and are in the middle of the average range for this time of year. Diesel fully inventories are at 5-year highs.<\/p>\n

Demand this past week was mixed although total product demand did increase by 3.4%. Over the last four weeks, gasoline demand averaged over 9.6 million barrels per day, up by 6.9% from the same period last year. Distillate fuel demand averaged 3.8 million barrels per day over the last four weeks, down by 1.5% from the same period last year.<\/p>\n
