{"id":152039,"date":"2019-07-23T18:18:06","date_gmt":"2019-07-23T22:18:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.countingpips.com\/?p=152039"},"modified":"2019-07-26T08:06:28","modified_gmt":"2019-07-26T12:06:28","slug":"black-hole-in-global-banking-is-being-exposed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.investmacro.com\/forex\/2019\/07\/black-hole-in-global-banking-is-being-exposed\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Hole In Global Banking Is Being Exposed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"inves-3276161320\" class=\"inves-below-title-posts inves-entity-placement\"><div id =\"posts_date_custom\"><div align=\"left\">July 23, 2019<\/div><hr style=\"border: none; border-bottom: 3px solid black;\">\r\n<\/div><\/div><p><strong>By <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1zUUpun\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>TheTechnicalTraders.com<\/u><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Almost a decade ago, the global financial crisis of 2008-09 exposed billions of people to the risks within the global financial\/banking sector.\u00a0 With all this money flowing around the globe and with banks able to facilitate greater and more diverse risk\/derivatives investments, the central banks and insurance companies are left with an incredible \u201cblack hole\u201d of exposed risk that is almost impossible to quantify.\u00a0 When we add the shadow\/gray market banking risks into this equation and begin to understand the complexity of commodity-backed or Purchase Order backed financing that has become commonplace throughout the planet, we have to ask ourselves one question \u2013 \u201cwhat would it take for these risks to become another crisis?\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Deutsche Bank Massive Exposure Could Cripple Europe<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A recent article we found on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2019-07-20\/bank-49-trillion-derivatives-exposure-melting-down-our-eyes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" ZeroHedge highlights the risk (opens in a new tab)\"> ZeroHedge highlights the risk<\/a> exposure from Deutsche Bank and how that derivatives\/banking risk could spill over into another global financial market crisis again.<\/p>\n<p>The ZeroHedge article stated that Deutsche Bank has $49 trillion dollars in derivatives exposure, making it the single greatest danger to Europe and global financial institutions imaginable at this time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-28807\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart1-3.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 729px) 100vw, 729px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart1-3.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart1-3-300x252.jpg 300w\" alt=\"\" width=\"729\" height=\"613\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>This additional <a href=\"https:\/\/realmoney.thestreet.com\/articles\/05\/26\/2016\/deutsche-bank-scares-you-omg-you-must-read\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"article from TheStreet (opens in a new tab)\">article from TheStreet<\/a>, from May 2016, highlights the continued risks associated with the global financial system and the level of derivatives risk that is inherent in the system.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a quote from that article that attempts to rationalize debt exposure\u2026<\/p><div id=\"inves-3552763570\" class=\"inves-in-content inves-entity-placement\"><hr style=\"border: 1px solid #ddd;\">\r\n<div id=\"inpost_ads_header\">\r\n<p style=\"font-size:10px; float:left; color:#666;\">Free Reports:<\/p><\/div>\r\n<div id=\"inpost_ads\"> \r\n<p style=\"font-size:15px; float:left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/1ApBOV\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/investmacro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/graph_techs_PD.png\" align=\"left\" width=\"80\"  height=\"55\"\/><\/a>\r\n\t     <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/1ApBOV\"><b><u>Get Our Free Metatrader 4 Indicators<\/u><\/b><\/a> - Put Our Free MetaTrader 4 Custom Indicators on your charts when you join our Weekly Newsletter<\/p><br><br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<p style=\"font-size:15px; float:left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/f3RrHX\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/investmacro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/cot_pie_80.png\" align=\"left\" width=\"80\"  height=\"55\"\/><\/a>\r\n\t    <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/f3RrHX\"><b><u>Get our Weekly Commitment of Traders Reports<\/u><\/b><\/a> - See where the biggest traders (Hedge Funds and Commercial Hedgers) are positioned in the futures markets on a weekly basis.<\/p><br><br>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<hr style=\"border: 1px solid #ddd;\">\r\n<br><\/div>\n<p>\u201dLet\u2019s take the latest data in Deutsche Bank\u2019s annual report for 2015. It shows that the bank\u2019s total, notional exposure to derivatives transactions is 41.9 trillion euros ($46.8 trillion). While that\u2019s more than 35% lower than its 2013 exposure, it still looks huge.<\/p>\n<p>However, after offsetting the positive and negative exposures against each other, the net exposure is a much more manageable 18.2 billion euros ($20.3 billion).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The data that we\u2019ve been able to find regarding US exposure to the global derivatives market is rather limited in scope.\u00a0 The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis provides some data, but we believe this data fails to include shadow\/gray banking risks.\u00a0 Traders must be aware of the fact that the global economy has been running on ether after the 2009 market collapse.\u00a0 Global central banks have poured capital into the markets and foreign economies have consumed vast amounts of easy-money capital to run up huge debt levels while creating massive shadow\/gray level financial systems.<\/p>\n<p>In our opinion, the current global banking situation is far more fragile now than it was 10 years ago. The US is in a far better position to handle risks and exposure to risks than it was in 2008-09 and the real issue before us is the level of unknown risks that are a complete black hole in the foreign markets.<\/p>\n<h3>Ray Dalio Says Gold Is the Best Asset During Global Financial Reset And Eric Sprott Likes Gold Also.<\/h3>\n<p>A recent article by <strong>Ray Dalio<\/strong>, he stated gold is the asset in which we should all be accumulating as it will be a top performer globally when things start to fall apart. On May 31st <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/partners\/idevaffiliate.php?id=237&amp;url=https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/when-you-contemplate-negative-interest-rates-i-would-rather-own-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Eric Sprott talked about my gold forecast (opens in a new tab)\"><strong>Eric Sprott talked about my gold forecast<\/strong><\/a> in detail. Since then I have accumulated more gold and silver from <strong>Eric Sprott\u2019s<\/strong> company <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sprottmoney.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">https:\/\/www.SprottMoney.com\/<\/a> <\/strong> and you should too.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sprottmoney.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-28801\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/eric-sprott.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Eric Sprott Gold &amp; Silver<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Federal Reserve Bank Data Is A Warning Sign<\/h3>\n<p>Ok, now take a look at these graphs from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis to see the data that is currently being reported.<\/p>\n<p>Net US Acquisitions of non-derivatives assets have been relatively tame over the past 6+ years.\u00a0 We can see from this chart the continued acquisition of assets from 2002 through 2007-08 \u2013 just before the credit crisis event.\u00a0 Then, we can see how dramatically the assets were dumped between 2007 and 2009.\u00a0 We\u2019re not seeing that type of setup or event play out currently in the US.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-28798\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart2-19.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 924px) 100vw, 924px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart2-19.png 850w, https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart2-19-300x121.png 300w, https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart2-19-768x309.png 768w\" alt=\"\" width=\"924\" height=\"371\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>This next chart highlights the US financial derivatives net position and we can see the peak in 2008-09 and the dramatic deleveraging that has taken place over the past 8+ years.\u00a0 This chart shows the US financial derivatives levels are less than 25% of the levels from the start of 2008. ($31B vs $125B).<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-28799\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart3-16.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 921px) 100vw, 921px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart3-16.png 850w, https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart3-16-300x121.png 300w, https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart3-16-768x309.png 768w\" alt=\"\" width=\"921\" height=\"370\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>This last chart highlights the fact that US investors and institutions have been deleveraging from derivatives recently \u2013 as shown by the net negative transactions data on this chart.\u00a0 This suggests that investors are worried about the future and have been attempting to remove risk from their investments since the peak in early 2018.\u00a0 Notice similar net transaction declines in 2014-15 and 2009-10.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-28800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart4-4.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 921px) 100vw, 921px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart4-4.png 850w, https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart4-4-300x121.png 300w, https:\/\/www.thetechnicaltraders.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chart4-4-768x309.png 768w\" alt=\"\" width=\"921\" height=\"370\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>We believe the dips in these assets are related to US Quantitative Easing actions and investor concerns regarding the elimination of easy money policies.\u00a0 We will take a look at when and how these correlations to risk aversion and QE actually take place in Part II.<\/p>\n<p>In the second part of this article, we\u2019ll explore how the US economy, US Fed and global banking sector could be complicating this derivative risk exposure and how traders need to prepare for this event \u2013 if it takes place as we suspect.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to see 5 other crucial warning signs about the US markets and global economic downturn just take a look at this short video and charts.<\/p>\n<p>In early June I posted a detailed video explaining in showing the bottoming formation and gold and where to spot the breakout level, I also talked about crude oil reaching it upside target after a double bottom, and I called short term top in the SP 500 index. It\u2019s known that the transportation index leads the broad stock market and if the transports are breaking down then we must expect the bear market is close.
