U.S. and global financial markets are unlikely to be \u201cunmoved\u201d by President Trump\u2019s 2019 State of the Union address on Tuesday evening, affirms the CEO of one of the world\u2019s largest independent financial advisory organizations.<\/p>\n

The comments from Nigel Green, founder and chief executive of deVere Group which does business in 100 countries globally, follow\u00a0Mr Trump\u2019s second State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress shortly after 9 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n

Mr Green notes: \u201dPresident Trump today delivered a speech promising increased fiscal spending, affordable drugs and protection of American jobs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt could have been from a European socialist politician with nineteenth-century ideas on the benefits of managed trade, rather than free trade.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continues: \u201cTrump repeated his promise that \u2018the theft of American jobs and wealth\u2019 will come to an end.\u00a0There was no commitment made to free trade, suggesting his preference for managed trade and protecting producer interests\u00a0 -which he defines as \u2018jobs\u2019 – will persist.<\/p>

\u201cWe do not expect financial markets to move, since this is how we understand Trump already.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continues: \u201cThere were no major surprises for investors. He didn\u2019t, for example, declare a state of emergency over funding for The Wall and he didn\u2019t make any off-message comments on China.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs such, the markets will pretty much carry on as before.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Green concludes: \u201cHowever, with many of the major issues that could impact markets and returns still hanging in the air, investors need to ensure that their portfolios are properly diversified.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will position them to be able to mitigate risks and take advantage of the inevitable opportunities that will arise.\u201d<\/p>\n
