SP500 turns higher for the week<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

US stock market\u00a0<\/b>extended gains on Friday on US-China trade talk resumption optimism.\u00a0S&P 500<\/a>\u00a0gained 0.3% to 2850.13, ending 0.6% higher for the week.\u00a0Dow Jones\u00a0<\/em>industrial average rose 0.4% to 25669.32. The\u00a0Nasdaq\u00a0<\/em>added 0.1% to 7816.33. The dollar weakening accelerated as the University of Michigan consumer-sentiment index in August fell from 97.9 in July to 95.3, the lowest level in 11 months: the\u00a0live dollar index<\/a>\u00a0data show the ICE US Dollar index, a measure of the dollar\u2019s strength against a basket of six rival currencies, fell 0.2% to 96.09 but is higher currently. Stock index futures indicate higher openings today.<\/p>\n

DAX 30 opens higher than main European indices<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

European stocks\u00a0<\/b>pulled back on Friday led by Italian bank shares. Both the\u00a0EUR\/USD<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0GBP\/USD<\/a>\u00a0accelerated their climb but both pairs are lower currently. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index slipped 0.1%, ending 1.2% lower for the week. The\u00a0DAX 30<\/em>slid 0.2% to 12210.55. France\u2019s\u00a0CAC 40\u00a0<\/em>lost less than 0.1% while UK\u2019s\u00a0FTSE 100\u00a0<\/a>added less than 0.1% to 7558.59. Markets opened 0.2% – 0.4% higer today.<\/p>\n

Chinese shares lead Asian indices gains<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Asian stock indices<\/b>\u00a0are mostly rising today as investors await the US-China talks in Washington on August 21 and 22, just before US tariffs on $16 billion of Chinese goods take effect.\u00a0Nikkei\u00a0<\/em>lost 0.3% to 22199 despite a yen turn lower against the dollar. Chinese stocks are gaining as yuan rose against the dollar retreating from a psychologically important 7.0000 level: the\u00a0Shanghai Composite Index\u00a0<\/em>is up 1.1% and Hong Kong\u2019s\u00a0Hang Seng\u00a0<\/em>Index is 1.3% higher. Australia\u2019s All Ordinaries Index is up 0.1% as the Australian dollar turned lower against the greenback.<\/p>\n

Brent\u00a0<\/a>extends gains<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Brent futures prices\u00a0<\/b>are inching higher ahead of Iran sanctions. Prices rose Friday as the US and China prepared to resume trade talks next week: Brent for October settlement rose 0.6% to close at $71.83 a barrel Friday, ending 1.3% lower for the week.<\/p>\n
