Dow edges higher while SP 500, Nasdaq slip<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

US stocks\u00a0<\/b>extended losses Friday led by financial shares.\u00a0S&P 500<\/a>\u00a0fell 0.3% to 2712.97, slipping 0.5% for the week.\u00a0Dow Jones\u00a0<\/em>industrial average however ended marginally higher at 24715.09. The\u00a0Nasdaq\u00a0<\/em>composite lost 0.4% to 7354.34. The dollar strengthened: the\u00a0live dollar index<\/a>\u00a0data show the ICE US Dollar index, a measure of the dollar\u2019s strength against a basket of six rival currencies, rose 0.2% to 93.644 and is higher currently. Stock indices futures point to mixed openings today.<\/p>\n

European stocks log eighth straight weekly gain<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

European stock indices\u00a0<\/b>pulled back Friday led by Italian stocks on news the coalition government plan included tax cuts and increases in fiscal spending. Both the\u00a0British Pound<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0euro\u00a0<\/em>fell against the dollar with the slide continuing currently. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index lost 0.3%, ending 0.6% higher for the week. The\u00a0DAX 30\u00a0<\/em>lost 0.3% to 13077.72. France\u2019s\u00a0CAC 40\u00a0<\/em>slipped 0.1% and UK\u2019s\u00a0FTSE 100\u00a0<\/a>edged 0.1% lower to 7778.79. Markets opened 0.2% – 0.4% higher today.<\/p>\n

Asian indices rise<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Asian stock indices<\/b>\u00a0are mostly higher today after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Sunday that the Trump administration would \u201cput the trade war on hold,\u201d and delay tariffs on Chinese imports to the US.\u00a0Nikkei\u00a0<\/em>ended 0.4% higher at 22865.86 helped by accelerating yen slide against the dollar. Chinese stocks are higher: the\u00a0Shanghai Composite Index<\/em>is up 0.7% and Hong Kong\u2019s\u00a0Hang Seng\u00a0<\/em>Index is 0.7% higher. Australia\u2019s All Ordinaries Index is down 0.1% with Australian dollar extending gains against the greenback.<\/p>\n

Brent\u00a0<\/a>steady<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Brent futures prices\u00a0<\/b>are pulling back today on rising US output. Prices closed lower Friday as Baker Hughes reported the number of active US drilling rigs was unchanged at 844 last week. Brent for July settlement lost 1% to close at $78.51 a barrel Friday.<\/p>\n
