Main stock indices fall despite positive earnings<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

US stocks\u00a0<\/b>closed lower Friday despite better than expected first-quarter earnings.\u00a0S&P 500<\/a>\u00a0lost 0.3% to 2656.30 led by financial stocks. SP 500 gained 2% for the week.\u00a0Dow Jones\u00a0<\/em>industrial average fell 0.5% to 24360.14. The\u00a0Nasdaq<\/em>composite dropped 0.5% to 7106.65. The dollar turned lower Friday: the\u00a0live dollar index<\/a>\u00a0data show the ICE US Dollar index, a measure of the dollar\u2019s strength against a basket of six rival currencies, inched down less than 0.1% to 89.732. Stock indices futures indicate higher openings today.<\/p>\n

European stocks log third straight weekly gain<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

European stocks\u00a0<\/b>extended gains on Friday. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index gained 0.1%, rising 1.2% for the week. Theeuro\u00a0<\/em>joined\u00a0British Pound\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>climb against the dollar. The\u00a0DAX 30\u00a0<\/em>rose 0.2% to 12442.40. France\u2019s\u00a0CAC 40\u00a0<\/em>added 0.1% and UK\u2019s\u00a0FTSE 100\u00a0<\/a>gained 0.1% to 7264.56. Indices opened flat to 0.3% higher today.<\/p>\n

Asian indices mixed<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Asian stock indices<\/b>\u00a0are mixed today with traders uncertain how events will develop in Middle East after Friday airstrikes against Syria by the US and allies.\u00a0Nikkei\u00a0<\/em>rose 0.3% to 21836 despite yen reversal higher against the dollar. Chinese stocks are a lower: the\u00a0Shanghai Composite Index\u00a0<\/em>is down 1.5% and Hong Kong\u2019s\u00a0Hang Seng\u00a0<\/em>Index is 2% lower. Australia\u2019s All Ordinaries Index is up 0.2% as Australian dollar extends gains against the greenback.<\/p>\n

Brent\u00a0<\/a>slides<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Brent futures prices\u00a0<\/b>are retreating today following US and allies strikes on Syria and data showing rising US oil rig count last week. Prices rose Friday on geopolitical tensions as traders wondered when the US would launch Syria airstrikes ater President Trump\u2019s warning. Brent for June settlement rose 0.8% to close at $72.58 a barrel Friday.<\/p>\n
