US stock futures slipped Monday as investors preferred safe-haven assets such as gold and the Japanese yen. The dollar inched higher: the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifcmarkets.com\/en\/market-data\/usdidx\">live dollar index<\/a> data show the ICE US Dollar index, a measure of the dollar\u2019s strength against a basket of six rival currencies, closed 0.38% higher at 101.625. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures fell 0.16% to 19853.10. S&amp;P 500 futures opened higher and ended up 0.06% at 2271.16. Today they are down to pre-holiday levels before the regular trading resumes<\/p>\n<div class=\"news_announce t_anounce component_text component_text_all wrap_small\">\n<div class=\"text_cont_wrapper\">\n<p>US stocks finished the week in the negative territory on Friday. The Dow Jones industrials index lost 0.4% and the S&amp;P 500 finished 0.1% lower. This week investors will be focusing on inflation and housing market data. Markets may get additional direction guides on Friday if Trump&#8217;s speech on Inauguration Day provides some clues on his tax and fiscal policies. Today at 14:30 CET January Empire State Manufacturing Index will be published, the outlook is negative for dollar. And at 14:45 CET Federal Reserve Bank of New York President William Dudley will speak about consumer behavior at the National Retail Federation conference, in New York.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ifcmarkets.com\/uploads\/images\/SP500_17Jan2017.png\" alt=\" SP 500 \" width=\"660 px\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"m_overv_image_cont\">\n<div class=\"col-lg-7 col-md-7 col-sm-12 col-xs-12\">\n<h2 class=\"emailSummary\">Bank auto shares pull European markets down<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"emailSummary\"><b>European markets <\/b>fell on Monday dragged by banking and automaker stocks. Both the euro and the British Pound weakened against the dollar with the Pound losing more than 1% in anticipation of the speech by UK Prime Minister Theresa May scheduled today, in which she is expected to unveil her country\u2019s plans for negotiating an exit from the European Union. The Stoxx Europe 600 index fell 0.8%. The DAX 30 lost 0.6% to close at 11554.71 weighed by auto makers after US President-elect Donald Trump repeated he will introduce a 35% import tax on cars built in Mexico that will be exported to the US. France\u2019s CAC 40 dropped 0.8% and UK\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifcmarkets.com\/en\/market-data\/indices-prices\/gb100\">FTSE 100<\/a> ended 0.2% lower at 7327.13, breaking a 14-day winning streak.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news_announce t_anounce component_text component_text_all wrap_small\">\n<div class=\"text_cont_wrapper\">\n<p>Volkswagen shares fell 2.2%, Daimler and BMW lost 1.5%. It is expected May will emphasize that the UK is leaving the EU\u2019s single market to regain control of immigration policy, the scenario known as \u201chard Brexit.\u201d The Stoxx Europe 600 Bank Index fell 1.4% with UK banks facing the prospect of losing passporting rules that make for easier access into the EU market. In economic news, euro-zone\u2019s trade surplus rebounded in November as exports jumped. Today at 10:30 CET December Consumer Price Index will be released in UK, the outlook is positive for Pound. And at 11:00 CET December ZEW survey results for Germany and euro-zone will come out. The tentative outlook is positive for euro. And at 12:45 CET Prime Minister May will speak on UK priorities in Brexit negotiations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"m_overv_image_cont\">\n<div class=\"col-lg-7 col-md-7 col-sm-12 col-xs-12\">\n<h2 class=\"emailSummary\">Asian markets mixed ahead of May\u2019s Brexit speech<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"emailSummary\"><b>Asian stocks<\/b> are mixed today. Nikkei lost 1.5% to 18813.53 today, near six-week low as yen strengthened against the dollar amid heightened uncertainty about euro-zone\u2019s economic outlook ahead of UK\u2019s Prime Minister\u2019s speech on country\u2019s priorities in Brexit negotiations. Honda Motor shares fell 2.7% after it said the passenger-side air bag of one of its Fit compact vehicles ruptured last month in Japan. Chinese stocks are rising with the Shanghai Composite Index 0.2% higher and Hong Kong\u2019s Hang Seng index up 0.5%. Australia\u2019s All Ordinaries Index is down 0.8% as Australian dollar rebounded towards a one-month high against the dollar.<\/p>\n<div class=\"m_overv_image_cont\">\n<div class=\"col-lg-7 col-md-7 col-sm-12 col-xs-12\">\n<h2 class=\"emailSummary\">Oil prices steady<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"emailSummary\"><b>Oil futures prices <\/b>are steady supported by Saudi Arabia\u2019s confirmation it would strictly adhere to a commitment to cut output.
