And they know it. Already, news of cancelled investment projects are filtering through. A mining industry that stops building new mines is, well, toast.<\/p>\n<p>The latest development is that investors, including companies, have been pulling their money out of China. <\/p>\n<p><span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <em><a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10000872396390444042704577589253328919714.html\" target=\"_blank\">Wall Street Journal<\/a><\/em> has figured out what that&#8217;s doing to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moneymorning.com.au\/20120523\/a-%E2%80%9Cturning-point%E2%80%9D-for-the-chinese-economy-and-australia.html\">Chinese economy<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><br \/>\n          &#8216;Massive inflows of capital were a key factor behind China&#8217;s runaway bank lending, rising asset prices and yuan appreciation. Now, money is flowing in the other direction, contributing to falling prices for everything from real estate to equities and China&#8217;s currency.&#8217;<br \/>\n    <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But there is a bigger effect.  When investors&#8217; money was flowing in, it forced the Chinese to have loose monetary policy to keep their exchange rate peg.<\/p>\n<p> Now that the money is flowing out, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyreckoning.com.au\/china%E2%80%99s-monetary-policy\/2011\/11\/25\/\"><strong>China&#8217;s monetary policy<\/strong><\/a> will, by default, tighten. That means less demand for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyreckoning.com.au\/australian-resources-sector-caught-in-the-inflationary-vice\/2012\/06\/29\/\">Australian resources<\/a>. The faster half of the Australian two speed economy will become the caboose. Resource stocks will tank. <\/p>\n<p>If we&#8217;re right, spare a moment of sympathy for <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10000872396390444042704577589253328919714.html\" target=\"_blank\">Calvin Sheng<\/a>, who <em>&#8216;recently shelled out 2.5 million yuan for an apartment in Melbourne, Australia. &#8220;I just went to the bank, bought the Australian dollars I needed for the down payment and transferred the funds to Australia,&#8221; said Mr. Sheng. &#8220;I am going there to study, and you can see it as a balanced investment, in case there is any economic downturn risk in China.&#8221;&#8216;<\/em> Calvin is trying to hedge a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyreckoning.com.au\/preparing-for-chinas-growth-slowdown-with-the-energy-hub-portfolio\/2012\/05\/14\/\">Chinese slowdown<\/a> by buying a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moneymorning.com.au\/20120724\/why-the-melbourne-property-market-could-be-set-for-two-years-of-pain.html\">house in Melbourne<\/a>. Oh boy.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s likely the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyreckoning.com.au\/the-grapefruit-currency-hindering-chinas-economic-growth\/2012\/07\/11\/\">Chinese will revalue their currency<\/a> downwards in an attempt to stimulate growth. That move would be another salvo fired in the ongoing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyreckoning.com.au\/currency-wars\/2012\/01\/27\/\">currency wars<\/a>. <em>Sound Money.
